ALEX PERRY MBFW 2014: THE DE-BRIEF

ALEX PERRY MBFW 2014: THE DE-BRIEF
December 13, 2014 Paris Donnelly

I must admit – I have never been Alex Perry’s biggest fan.  I find it hard to bring myself to trust a man who thinks it’s appropriate to wear sunglasses indoors and outdoors morning, noon, and night.  I mean, what purpose do they really serve? Although that question may never be answered, I know that the purpose of his S/S 2014/15 collection showcased at this years Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia is to make its way into my wardrobe.

Perry combines all the most fabulous things in life into one outfit: lace, textured leather, monochrome, a pop of colour blocking, and sheer cut outs. To top it all off – Victoria’s Secret angel Alessandra Ambrosio opened and closed the show looking absolutely stunning in an edgy and glamorous black sequined dress with the most perfectly crafted tuelle tucks.  This creation (or any of his dresses) would look amazing on anyone for a special occasion; with their dusty tones, long lines, and subtle sparkles.

The best thing about this collection was that it lived up to its ‘Ready to Wear’ title.  Perry has made it easy to pair any of the collared shirts with one of his loose or tight fitting skirts; suitable for uni, work, or a night out.

The hair and makeup was very minimal effort, maximum impact, according to Napoleon Perdis.  The hair was also channeling i-just-rolled-out-of-bed-yet-I-look-this-good vibes, with a simple middle part and some added tousled volume.  Easy!

(Editor’s Note: Check out EVO Salty Dog Sea Salt Spray to get the look!)

Now that there is a chill in the air in Sydney, I cannot wait to get out my boots (not that I haven’t been wearing them all year round or anything…).  I love that the entire range looks so perfect with a black, neutral, or white (!) boot, without making the clothes look too ‘heavy’.

The boots are also the perfect accessory to dress some of his more luxe outfits down.  Or, you could pair the tight fitting high waisted skirts that fall just below the knee with a midriff top and a pair of heels to dress the outfit up.  Speaking of winter weather, I’m also hoping that the white and black up-the-arm leather gloves will become a thing. Absolutely loving it!

If you’re on the same page, then like me, you’ll be so excited to see what Perry comes up with next! (Preferably a rethink on those sunglasses…but I won’t hold my breath!)
